BIR to host great summer racing lineup in Brainerd Lakes Area
Friday, May 20, 2011
Brainerd International Raceway will host an exciting summer lineup again this year!
For the first time in the U.S., Powercruise, a hugely propular car show event that originated in Australia, will be coming to the lakes area's BIR! It's billed as the wildest cruising show - and who can argue with contests such as the longest-running burnout and off-street drags!
Another highlight will be the 30th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, the largest annual sporting event in Minnesota with nearly 70,000 in attendance!
Many weekends will feature dual events with racing on the drag strip and on the competition road course. For instance, Memorial Day Weekend will feature Thunder at the Lakes NHRA Drag Race and SCCA Memorial Day Classic!
Want to do more than just watch? Bring your street-legal car, truck or motorcycle and try your hand at using the light tree and racing down the track during the Wednesday Night Drags!
Thank you to BIR for sponsoring an awesome orientation event this week for the media and tourism professionals. Holly Holm, our communications and tourism coordinator, at the Brainerd Lakes Chamber, enjoyed testing out the road course! A big thank you to Gary Curtis, lead instructor with the BIR Performance Driving School.
